Borrowing eBooks from the Seward Memorial Library – NOOK

Initial Setup:
(once these steps have been completed, you will not have to do them again)

  1. Obtain an Adobe ID if you don’t already have one (www.adobe.com) – click on Sign In and Create New Account
  2. On your computer (not the NOOK ), go to nebraska.lib.overdrive.com
  3. Scroll down until you see Digital Software on the left –
    click on Adobe Digital Editions
  4. Download and install Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) to your computer
  5. With the ADE program open, plug the NOOK into the computer using the USB cord (you may have to unzip the device as well)
  6. Open the folder to view files
  7. Click back to ADE
  8. Authorize the device
  9. There should now be a NOOK folder on the bookshelf in ADE

Checking out eBooks:

  1. Follow steps 5-6 in Initial Setup above
  2. Go to www.sewardlibrary.org and click on
    Log In To Your Account
  3. Use your library card number and password to log in
  4. Scroll to the bottom and click on this buttonOverdrive
  5. Find an available book in EPUB or PDF format and “add to cart”
  6. Proceed to check out, choose your lending period and
    download the borrowed book to ADE
  7. Drag the borrowed book to the NOOK bookshelf in ADE
  8. Close the NOOK drive
  9. Click “safely remove hardware” near the clock on a PC
  10. Unplug the NOOK
  11. On the NOOK, navigate to “My Library”
  12. Tap “My Documents” or “My Files”
  13. Tap “Digital Editions” folder
  14. Select your book and start reading!

Return eBooks early:

  1. On your computer, open ADE
  2. With the ADE program open, plug the NOOK into the computer using the USB cord (you may have to unzip the device as well)
  3. Open the folder to view files
  4. Click back to ADE
  5. Click on the NOOK folder in ADE
  6. Hover mouse on book to return
  7. Click “item options”
  8. Click Return item
  9. Close the NOOK drive
  10. Click “safely remove hardware” near the clock on a PC
  11. Unplug the NOOK
